Care for the Medically Complex: ICU to Long-term

Speaker: Ms. Cindy Kleiman

Oral hygiene care for the medically complex patient presents many challenges and rewards. This course addresses oral-systemic problems and explores dental hygiene solutions in treating patients who have experienced life-altering conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Also addressed will be the ravages of pneumonia and how it intimately relates to the oral-systemic connection. Can pneumonia be prevented with a toothbrush? Hear accounts of how the presenter learned through trial and error, as she relates with a light-hearted and compassionate style, her years of experience covering the full spectrum of patient care, from ICU through rehab to long-term care.
